North Main Improvements
On February 15, 2007 city officials met with concerned citizens to answer questions about the future of North Main Street. Federal funds were obtained in 1995 to complete streetscaping and an advisory committee was formed. We still don't know where the original plans derailed or why it's taken so long to get started, but there is now hope work will finally begin this summer.
Starting at Elmwood Ave. and moving toward Fairfield Road, North Main Street will be transformed one block at a time. Utilities will be buried, newlight poles and traffic signals will be installed, as well as landscaping and sidewalks. At a projected 3 months per block, it will take approximately 2 1/2 years to get from Elmwood Ave. to Parkside Dr. below Earlewood Park. Neighbors are encouraged to patronize businesses along the North Main corridor. Hopefully, the improvements will be worth the patience required to survive the headaches of the next few years.
